About Thundr — random 1-on-1 video chat, no sign-up

Thundr does one thing: it puts you in a private video chat with a stranger, in a browser tab, seconds after you arrive. This page explains who runs it, why it is built the way it is, and — the part most sites skip — what it is not.

1Who we are

Thundr is an independent product team that builds and operates one thing: this site, at thundr.online. We are not a marketplace, not a social network, and not a front for someone else's chat service — the product, the moderation queue and the support inbox are all ours.

The support address on this site, [email protected], reaches us directly. It is the only address we write from. If a message about Thundr arrives from anywhere else, it is not us.

A note on the name: Thundr is our own brand. Similar-sounding names exist online and we are not affiliated with any of them. Check the address bar before you turn a camera on — on this site or any other.

2Why we built it this way

Most ways of meeting someone online now start with a form. Pick a username, confirm an email, write a bio, upload a photo, wait to be approved, then scroll a grid of profiles and hope someone replies. By the time an actual conversation happens, the interesting part — not knowing who you are about to meet — has been engineered out of it.

Thundr removes that entire front end. There is no profile to build because there is nothing to browse: you press start and the next person is simply there. The trade is deliberate — you give up control over who you meet, and in return you are talking in seconds instead of days.

Everything runs in the browser for the same reason. An install is one more decision between wanting to talk to someone and actually doing it.

3What Thundr does — and what it does not

It does

  • Match you one-on-one with a random stranger
  • Work in video, voice or text mode
  • Let you leave any chat instantly with Next
  • Take reports and blocks, reviewed 24/7
  • Start free, with no account and no download

It does not

  • Match by interest, topic or anything you select
  • Filter by gender, age or country
  • Write opening lines or suggest what to say
  • Keep a profile, a friends list or a feed for you
  • Guarantee anyone is waiting at a given moment

We list the second column because those five things are what people most often assume a site like this has. It does not, and finding that out after allowing your camera is a bad way to learn it.

4How we keep it usable

An anonymous video product only stays usable if bad behaviour is expensive. Ours rests on three things, in this order:

  • Next — the fastest protection there is, and entirely yours. No approval needed, no reason given, no cost.
  • Block and report — block stops one account reaching you; report sends the session to moderation.
  • 24/7 review — reports are read by people. Accounts that break the rules are restricted or removed.

We are 18+ only, and that is the rule we enforce hardest. If you think you have matched with a minor, report it — skipping removes them from your screen and tells us nothing.

5Who Thundr is not for

Thundr is not for everyone, and we would rather say so here than waste your evening.

It is a poor fit if you want to choose who you meet. There are no filters — not by gender, not by country, not by anything. If that is the feature you are actually looking for, a site built around browsing profiles will serve you better than this one.

It is a poor fit if you want a lasting social graph. There is no friends list to build, no feed, nothing that accumulates. Chats end and do not come back.

And it is a poor fit if you need a guaranteed audience on demand. Matching is random and depends on who is around — most of the time that is a few seconds, but "always someone waiting" is a promise no honest random-chat site can make, and we are not going to make it.

6How the money works

Free to start, not free forever. Opening the site, allowing your camera and meeting strangers costs nothing up front. Some longer sessions and premium features use coins, and anything paid is labeled before you use it.

That is the whole model, and the honest footnote is that "free to start" is not "unlimited". Use Thundr heavily and you will reach a point where continuing costs coins. You will see that before it happens.

There is no subscription that begins quietly, and nothing is charged simply for opening the site. Full detail is on the coins page.

7Contact

Write to [email protected] — product problems, billing questions, data requests, press. What to include and what we can actually act on is set out on the contact page.

For anything urgent about safety, use the in-chat Report button instead. A report carries the session with it; an email does not.

That is the whole idea. Try it.
